The project is located in Nice, not far from the Promenade du Paillon, in a building complex built at the beginning of the 20th century and originally constituted of car garages. The building, by its atypical typology, has often been the subject of multiple transformations.
The part of the building, object of our intervention, is composed of a ground floor used as a parking lot and on the first floor, a vast loft, a workshop, various spaces of services which occupy blind zones and finally, a small mono-oriented studio on the courtyard side.
The owner plans to create a new living space independent of the "loft" by grouping the annexed rooms. The volume then has, for any natural lighting, only two windows on the courtyard and two thin transoms oriented North. The challenge of the intervention is to suggest a pleasant space to live, airy and bright.
The configuration of the building, covered by a vast waterproofed roof with a low slope, allows for the creation of a patio: an emblematic theme of the architecture.
The patio naturally takes place in the center of the volume. It is embellished with a planter planted with a beautiful wisteria that rises to the sky to form a planted pergola that provides shade, floral scents and privacy from neighboring buildings.
The plan is functional. The spaces are structured around the patio; a vast living space, an open kitchen, integrated storage, a beautiful bedroom and a guest space that can offer a mix of uses. On the floor, a solid douglas fir parquet and ceramic tiles "Pietra di Vals" are deployed between inside and outside.
The fluidity of the circulation and the spaces take place to a soft and soothing light welcoming calm and serenity.
