When we started thinking about the call“Terre Emerse” we didn't have a clear idea of what object to make.
The first drafts, also thinking about the nature of the material, revolved around one or more objects that did not create waste during the various processes, to arrive at the finished shape.
A few days before the call closed, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine broke out and it came naturally to us to think of something that would focus attention on an issue that affects us all.
We wanted to express ourselves about a reality that should no longer exist today: war.
From this reflection was born Boom, a bomb-shaped vase.
The name derives from the onomatopoeic voice that reproduces the sound of an explosion, Boom, a visceral object capable of creating a short circuit in those who observe it and generating reflections.
The concept arises from a combination of images, the vase and the device, tremendously similar in silhouette as well as tremendously different in function, the first called to conserve or give birth to life, the other to destroy it.
Thus the device becomes a vase and its destructive form is transformed into a vital form.
There is also a strong connection with the material, the "exploded" shells recompose to create something new.
The vase is made from half of the "shape 0" so as to have two identical vases but with two different colours: black Vesuvio and white Fiano. Two shades that have always represented opposites, good and evil, peace and war, love and hate, darkness and light, death and life.
