Schaffitzel Holzindustrie produces Brettschichtholz (glulam) for structural applications, including large-span and complex timber structures. The material is manufactured by bonding strength-graded, dried timber laminations to create stable, load-bearing components that can be produced in straight, curved, and block-glued configurations.

Made from a renewable raw material, Schaffitzel’s glulam uses timber from PEFC-certified forests. Carbon absorbed by trees during growth remains stored in the timber throughout its service life, while the material’s high load-bearing capacity and relatively low self-weight enable structurally efficient construction and large spans. Factory production allows components to be accurately prefabricated for assembly on site, while appropriate design, timber protection, and maintenance can support a long service life.

Passerelle Zwolle

Passerelle Zwolle is a new pedestrian bridge connecting the historic centre of Zwolle, the Netherlands, with the developing districts south of the railway. Designed by a multidisciplinary team led by Karres en Brands, with ipv Delft as bridge specialist and Ingenieurbüro Miebach as timber construction specialist, the Passerelle results from an intensive design process to develop an integra...
