FKL by Knauf Insulation is a rock mineral wool facade lamella developed for thermal, acoustic, and fire insulation in external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS). The flexible lamella format makes it suitable for both flat and curved facade surfaces, as well as soffits to garages, basements, loggias, and other unheated spaces. FKL has a declared thermal conductivity of 0.040 W/(mK), an A1 reaction-to-fire classification, and is hydrophobic and resistant to chemicals and microorganisms. When installed within the specified system and dimensional limits, the lamellas can be fully bonded without additional mechanical fixings.

Its thermal performance can help reduce operational energy demand by limiting heat transfer through the building envelope, while the durability of mineral wool supports a long service life with little intervention. Knauf provides Environmental Product Declaration data for the FKL range, enabling its life-cycle impacts to be assessed alongside other building materials. The associated EPD documentation also records the use of secondary raw materials and internal recycling of mineral wool manufacturing waste.

Čebín Primary School

Brno-based architecture studio knesl kynčl architekti has converted a former Jednota store dating from the 1970s into an upper-primary school for around 120 pupils. Located on Čebín’s village green, the school is designed to allow for future expansion and will also form part of a planned municipal energy-sharing scheme intended to increase local energy self-sufficiency.
