Moroso presents tables and a shelving system designed by the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson at Salone del Mobile in 2018. The prototypes, presented for the first time during last Salone, are derived from Eliasson’s Green light – a stackable lamp module based on the golden triangle that can be combined to form luminous sculptures or sprawling modular environments.
The lamp module is central to Eliasson’s “Green light – An artistic workshop”, a project created in collaboration with Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary. Launched in 2016 at TBA21–Augarten, in Vienna, Green light – An artistic workshop invites refugees and asylum seekers to participate in the communal construction of lamps, and hosts a multifaceted learning programme that includes language courses, job training, seminars, and artist’s interventions. The project offers a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as for the collective exploration of new models of community. It also provides a forum for discussing current geopolitical issues surrounding global migration, shining a metaphorical green light to asylum seekers and refugees. Eliasson brought “Green light – An artistic workshop” to the 57th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.
Both table and shelving system, constructed from multiplex board and painted steel, are based on the geometry of the Green light module. The shelves are built around the rhombic negative space outlined by the modules, and the table refers to the modules’ form by incorporating fragments of their geometry. Like the lamps, the tables were developed as modules: they can be combined into a hexagonal surface, lined up to create a zigzag row, or put together to create a star shape.
