Fishing has been an important metaphor since antiquity, from the pearl hunters of Bizet to the men of the Sacred Scriptures. It’s a continuous search fuelled by a curiosity that cannot be quenched. Sampei is the result of continuous research, an authentic “ready-made” conceived from a fishing pole. It’s a curvature in space, both subtle and evocative. The support mechanism for the light is sinuous, weightless and elegant. It brings to mind the subtle branches of a willow tree or bamboo canes floating on a light breeze. The light Sampei evokes is the fisherman’s fishing-line, catching faces, looks, people. Sampei is available in two versions: indoor and outdoor.
