At the point on the Brooklyn waterfront where Manhattan skyline vistas and connections to varied neighborhoods come together, Perkins Eastman served as architect of 1 Hotel, producing an industrial-flavored destination that reflects distinct local influences. Placing the visitor experience first, the design team partnered with Marvel Architects and Inc. Architecture and Design to shape this unique waterfront destination.
The re-envisioned Brooklyn Bridge Park has created openings for modern, socially connected mixed-use and multi-family residential development. With waterfronts throughout the U.S. facing sweeping changes, the hotel’s sustainable and resilient design approaches offer a model for what comes next. Perkins Eastman’s expertise in waterfront design was key to reimagining this vital neighborhood setting. In order to respect Brooklyn’s past and celebrate its present and future, the designers nodded to the waterfront’s industrial heritage with details that let guests experience a bit of old New York among contemporary amenities.
Over 190 guest rooms and communal spaces pay homage to present-day Brooklyn through local art, food, and natural elements that link to the neighboring Brooklyn Bridge Park. Certified LEED Gold, the development features numerous sustainable and resilient design measures, such as cross ventilation, grey water recycling, and green roof technology, while still delivering breathtaking views of the city over the East River.
