The assignment consisted of transforming an old tailoring shop with a size of 10×70m into a home for a single person. In addition to the usual requirements of a house, the program included a studio area and an artistic creation workshop.

Two main targets have been pursued: on one hand, to define a space with a comprehensible human scale in the context of a warehouse of large proportions. On the other hand, as a counterpoint, that the perception of one unique space of a singular character couldn’t be lost at any point.

Thus, the project proposes a series of divisions of various kinds, which articulate the space according to the needs of the program without using any door. These independent objects –partitions composing right angles, or a tiered sofa- never come in contact with the perimeter walls or ceiling, preserving the visual continuity of the original open and diaphanous space.

Nevertheless, the existing perimeter walls that border the exterior have been manipulated, displacing the window frames towards the interior. This way, two main elements are created, introducing a pause in the fluent space, and bringing inside natural light, air and vegetation. Those pieces consist in a triangular shaped terrace and a little garden between the main bedroom and the kitchen.

We haven’t aim to create a domestic space, but to tame it, as if it were a wild animal that has learned how to share life with you, but it will never lose its essence, its actual nature.
