The AC Residence Pavilion consists of an addition to an existing house, located in the brazilian countryside, just outside of the city of São Paulo. This new volume houses a living area with kitchen, a large dining table, and an integrated living room, as well as a guest suite on the ground floor — designed especially for visitors with reduced mobility — and a changing room to serve the existing swimming pool on the property.
The layout, materiality, and construction systems were defined based on two fundamental premises: to promote the best possible dialogue with the preexisting architecture and garden, and to ensure a fast, clean, and organized construction process. For this reason, prefabricated elements assembled on-site were chosen for most of the work, allowing all stages — from foundations to finishes — to be completed in just four months.
The new volume, positioned parallel to the pool, is composed of two rectangular blocks covered by a single roof, approaching the original house without touching it. The block closest to the house functions as a natural extension of the residence’s social area, while the second, set back and rotated in relation to the first, provides privacy for the suite and amplifies the view from the main house.
The structure, made of steel columns and beams on concrete foundations, supports a light roof composed of wooden joists projecting towards the pool. This composition generates a generous eave enclosed with glass and metal mesh, protecting the façade and filtering natural light into the interior.
The external cladding in wood panels with a cementitious graphite finish establishes a subtle dialogue with the black-painted wooden panels of the original construction, creating visual unity between the new and the existing. The light beige fulget flooring, which extends from the pavilion’s interior to the entire external area around the pool, combined with large sliding glass doors, favors fluid integration between indoor and outdoor spaces — bringing into the new volume the informality and lightness of the leisure area.
