Skellefteå's new landmark will serve as a meeting place for research, education, and innovation in electrification. It will also be the base for the Arctic Centre of Energy (ACE). This competence centre unites academia, industry, and the public sector to enhance skills and research in the future energy system. 

The ACE Powerhouse will be an 8,300 m² building serving as the headquarters for the Arctic Centre of Energy in Skellefteå, featuring a range of workspaces, educational environments, and public areas. The project aims to minimise its climate impact through a combination of a wooden frame, recycling, and thoughtful material choices. Notably, materials from Skellefteå Hospital have been repurposed in the construction. Hundreds of different products were evaluated and recovered, with 20% of the floor area made from recycled materials. 

Additionally, the building will serve as a test environment for RISE's research on converting wood industry materials and residuals into new building materials. Many installations will be kept visible, allowing the project to eliminate suspended ceilings and other surface layers. Approximately half of the toilets will flush using rainwater or river water, and heat will be recovered from wastewater via special floor drains. The project prioritises reduced transport emissions and will generate electricity locally using solar panels. It has achieved Miljöbyggnad Gold and Zero CO2 certification and was named Miljöbyggnad of the Year 2025 by the Sweden Green Building Council.

The building is scheduled for completion in 2027 and will then function as the base for ACE and a hub for research, education, and innovation. Luleå University of Technology, Skellefteå Municipality, and Skellefteå Kraft support ACE.
