Affordable housing

The central concept behind my project is to introduce affordable housing units in ADLIEH, specifically designed to serve working population employed in the neighborhood. The idea was to create functional compact living spaces that offer both comfort and privacy, while maximizing the use of space and minimizing construction costs.

To achieve this, I began with a modular 4x4 room unit as the core building block. Instead of relying on traditional layouts with hallways- which often result in wasted space- I reconfigured the placement of rooms to create open, interconnected spaces. This approach eliminated the need for corridors, allowing each apartment to have more spacious and efficient layout.

Each housing unit includes essential features for modern urban living : a balcony for open spaces, an open plan kitchen, a living area, and one or more bedrooms depending on the apartment type. Model 1 is a two bedroom unit, ideal for small families or roommated, Model 2 is a one bedroom studio apartment and the thrid model is a duplex unit, offering a more spacious feel while maintaining a compact footprint.

The stacking of these units were carefully designed to prioritize both comfort and privacy by alternating balcony orientations, using thoughtful window placements and avoiding direct sightlines between units, the superposition of the apartments ensures a sense of domestruc intimacy.

At the same time, the layouts remain highly functional, catering the daily needs of residents since the building have all the needed functions such as a supermarket, a local pharmacy, a gym, a restaurant, a common lobby and green outdoor spaces
