A School Designed as an Educational Resort

AIKO International School was conceived from the vision of "creating a learning environment inspired by a resort experience" - a place where education extends beyond classrooms to foster well-being, creativity, and a deep connection with nature. The project reimagines the traditional school model as an educational resort: contemporary, elegant, sustainable, and culturally distinctive.

The architectural concept combines modern design principles with inspiration drawn from the spatial qualities of resort bungalows. Low-rise building masses, pitched roofs, and open layouts create a human-scaled environment that feels relaxed, welcoming, and closely connected to nature, while maintaining the standards expected of an international educational institution.

Traditional materials such as red brick and timber are carefully integrated into the design, creating a balance between global architectural language and local identity. Large glazed openings and open-plan spaces maximize natural daylight, encourage cross-ventilation, and strengthen the visual and physical connection between indoor and outdoor environments. Greenery is woven throughout the campus, from gardens and courtyards to circulation areas and upper levels, creating a healthy and inspiring learning atmosphere.

Spatial Organization
The campus masterplan is organized around flexibility, connectivity, and user experience.

The arrival zone is designed with the ambiance of a resort lobby, offering a welcoming and memorable first impression. Academic buildings are strategically oriented toward landscaped areas, ensuring classrooms are filled with natural light and views of greenery. Shared facilities, communal spaces, and internal courtyards serve as vibrant hubs for interaction, experiential learning, and relaxation.

This arrangement promotes a sense of community while providing students with diverse learning environments that extend beyond conventional classroom settings.

Sustainability and User-Centered Design
Sustainability is a core principle of the AIKO International School project. Architectural solutions have been carefully developed to improve environmental performance while enhancing occupant comfort.

Sun-shading systems are strategically integrated to reduce direct solar heat gain and improve energy efficiency. The design also allows for the future integration of renewable energy technologies. Water management strategies include rainwater harvesting and reuse for landscape irrigation, complemented by water-efficient fixtures and drought-tolerant native planting.

Material selection prioritizes durability, environmental responsibility, and long-term performance. The project predominantly utilizes sustainable materials such as fired brick and timber, combined with low-maintenance finishing solutions that ensure longevity and reduced lifecycle costs.

Learning spaces are designed to be naturally ventilated, richly illuminated by daylight, and closely connected to landscaped environments. These strategies contribute to improved indoor air quality, enhanced thermal comfort, and a healthier microclimate throughout the campus.

At the masterplanning level, a carefully controlled building density allows for generous open spaces and extensive greenery, helping mitigate the urban heat island effect while creating a more livable educational environment.

Architecture as a Teaching Tool
Beyond its physical function, AIKO International School embraces architecture as an educational medium. The project promotes environmental awareness by allowing students to experience sustainable principles in their daily lives - from green landscapes and natural ventilation to water conservation strategies and responsible material use.

By integrating sustainability into the built environment, the campus becomes a living classroom where children can develop an understanding of ecological responsibility and sustainable living from an early age.

Through its resort-inspired design approach, strong connection to nature, and commitment to sustainability, AIKO International School establishes a new benchmark for contemporary educational architecture in Vietnam.
