Amsterdam UMC wants to remain the leader in the field of medical imaging. All its activities related to imaging techniques are to be concentrated in the new Imaging Center. ‘Top-class care and research in a modern and, above all, flexible building.’ The project focuses on synergy, flexibility and sustainability.
The new building will house the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine departments, Cyclotron BV and the Laser Centre. It may be extended in the future with an intervention unit that includes hybrid operating theatres. The physical clustering of all imaging disciplines is a crucial step towards synergy in this field. Meeting, communication and collaboration are therefore at the heart of the design. The building will be an interactive platform for the various users.
The large quantity of imaging equipment, the state-of-the-art laboratories and the wide diversity of users call for a great deal of flexibility. Moreover, it must be possible to quickly adapt the building to continually developing research equipment.
