Tired of Barcelona’s bustle, the client moved to a nearby coastal town and chose a compact apartment in Sitges, on a quiet hillside with beautiful sea views.

Despite the setting, the flat was a sequence of cramped, impersonal whitewashed rooms, lacking warmth and a connection to both the owner and the location.

Because of the small footprint and structural limits, major plan changes weren’t possible, so the project focused on layout, materials, colors and furniture. The main intervention was removing the wall between kitchen and living room to make the space feel larger and airier. In its place, a colorful cabinet displaying the client’s tableware separates the two areas, keeping the kitchen slightly secluded yet connected. The living room — the heart of the apartment, framed by windows over the seaside — was designed for hosting, with a large table the owner can also use for work. The plan also allowed for a proper bedroom and a small room that doubles as TV room or guest bedroom. In the latter, the door was relocated from the entrance wall to the center axis, making space for a built-in wardrobe and giving the room a more intimate feel.

The client’s design-savvy personality and the vibrant Catalan coastline defined the visual language: lively yet cozy, with rich, deep (but not loud) colors that echo the views and form a backdrop for elegant, comfortable Scandinavian furniture. The owner’s collection of vintage colored glass and contemporary art tied the composition together.

The project shows how a few precise structural moves and an intelligent use of space, enhanced by warm, beautiful interiors, can turn a small apartment into a personal, luxurious home that supports different activities — and, above all, brings daily joy and inspiration to its owner
