150 YEARS OF ITALIAN LANDSCAPE
The exhibition aims to investigate how the landscape has been artistically perceived and represented from the 1850s to the present day, highlighting what have been changes in aesthetics and representational codes while trying to raise visitors' awareness of the issue of environmental degradation.
Through a long narrative using paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, photography and new media-from the mid-nineteenth century to the present-the exhibition revolves around creative thinking about landscape, a pictorial genre inherited from the eighteenth century as a reflection of nature in art, as an antithesis to mythological and history painting, which is freed from its stereotypes without, however, disappearing, due to the ability of landscape itself to profoundly renew its meanings and representative codes, to reflect the radical transformations of Italian artistic culture and society as a whole.
