Client Brief: A family of six seeking a contemporary yet timeless family home that seamlessly integrates functionality, luxury, and aesthetic appeal.

Key challenges: The Arched Anomaly House faced challenges in designing its signature parametric arch with a gradient thickness (2 to 7 inches), requiring precise engineering and craftsmanship. Optimizing natural light and ventilation in the north-facing plot while ensuring privacy and openness in a compact 2,950 sq. ft. space demanded innovative layouts. Seamlessly integrating services like plumbing and HVAC without disrupting the exposed brick and concrete design was complex. Achieving high-quality finishes in the rustic-contemporary material palette and constructing the intricate double-height façade posed technical difficulties. Balancing landmark identity with neighborhood harmony and meeting sustainability goals further tested the project’s design ingenuity.

The Arched Anomaly House features a carefully selected material palette of exposed brick, concrete, and glass, chosen for their functionality, aesthetic appeal, and sustainability. Exposed brick imparts a rustic charm, enhances thermal insulation, and adds textural depth to the façade. Concrete complements the modern design, offering strength and durability while enabling the parametric arch’s unique geometry. Glass maximizes natural light penetration, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. These materials were chosen for their low maintenance, longevity, and ability to age gracefully, blending timeless elegance with a contemporary aesthetic to meet the project's functional and design goals.
