Two Arquitetura is driven by the challenge of transforming spaces into true extensions of the identities of those who inhabit them. More than just designing, their work begins with a sensitive and profound process of listening — one capable of translating lifestyles, passions, and personal histories into unique environments. Such was the case with Arthaus: a 750 m² apartment where architecture and art intertwine as an expression of a couple who embrace collecting as a way of life.
Passionate about all forms of art — sacred, modern, classical, baroque, contemporary — the homeowners move fluidly between styles and eras. When they traded a house for an apartment, the challenge was not merely to reorganize space, but to preserve and reinterpret this deeply personal universe. The project was born from the mission to integrate their collection into the architecture with balance, sophistication, and authenticity — and Two embraced this role as curator, translator, and creator.
The first step was deep listening. Selecting the artworks and furniture involved a thoughtful, intentional process that required both detachment and clarity. Not everything would fit in the new space — but everything that remained had to resonate with the essence of the couple. Some pieces came from their former home, others were sourced from antique dealers or custom-designed, always with the goal of composing a home where art is alive, but never prioritized over comfort.
A neutral and sober base was a strategic decision by Two: an architecture that quiets itself so that the art can speak. Reclaimed wood runs throughout the apartment, bringing unity and warmth. In the social areas, white lacquered wood panels with discreet boiseries offer timeless elegance. Layered lighting — coves, sconces, focal points — was designed to highlight artwork, textures, and comfort, creating specific atmospheres for every moment.
The entrance hall immediately sets the tone of the project: a black door with visible grain opens to a dark, dramatic space where a classical sculpture is illuminated as the protagonist. Once displayed in the garden of the old house, the piece now welcomes guests with both impact and reverence.
In the living room, the composition centers on the blend of styles: a grand piano, a baroque angel sculpture by the renowned Aleijadinho, and the iconic modern yellow Papa Bear chair. A generous sofa, custom-designed tables, and a neutral rug maintain the focus on the art, with elegance and comfort. Two avoided the obvious — every choice carries intention and emotional resonance.
The dining room holds stories. The solid oak table, once a sewing workbench, brings symbolic weight through its aged materiality. Beside it, the floating Calacatta marble counter adds lightness, discretion, and functionality.
On the balcony, Two reimagined the couple’s fondness for outdoor moments from their previous home. A custom-designed travertine silver table evokes the memory of outdoor breakfasts, while a center table carved from a solid tree trunk reinforces the natural atmosphere — a setting for contemplation and comfort.
In the private wing, each bedroom reflects its inhabitant. There are five suites, each with distinct choices. The master suite features warm grey walls, reinterpreted boiseries, a headboard crafted from woven cane and brass, and green leather bedside tables — all designed in partnership with Christie Móveis. Custom carpentry brings elegant functionality and delivers Two’s final touch of comfort.
The powder room also reflects the project’s unique personality: clad in Nero Marquina marble, it houses a brass-framed mirror with concealed lighting — both designed by Two. It’s a sensorial and sophisticated experience, like a private miniature gallery.
More than a residential project, Arthaus is a curatorial essay in domestic scale. Two Arquitetura brought together listening, technique, and sensibility to create an architecture that respects and enhances both the power of art and the identity of its residents. A home where living is, above all, an act of contemplation.
