Our first interest concerned the relation between the site and the stairs of the Lefuel courtyard. We propose to set up a course as an answer to these stairs. This course appears as a folding, occupying the space between the upper and the downer ground floor. Its effect on the Visconti courtyard is minimal. The point is to reveal a maximum of views of the existing facades and especially of the Great Gallery’s façade. A glass canopy covers the courtyard.
The project is materialized by a thick slab dug with numerous niches as a “bas-relief”. The courses are dug in the mass, but so are benches and rest spaces. This slab hosts and stages every work of art, positioned in the three dimensions, according to an optimal field of view: tents and porches are overhead and tiling is on the ground.
The material / color of the project is unique: Gold as a part of the history of the Louvre. Gold as a reference to the treasure of the Cave of Ali Baba, as a common material shared by Orient and Occident.
