The project is located in a small beach town in Southern California overlooking the Palos Verdes Hills. In order to capture this spectacular view, we located the main living / dining room on the second floor with floor to ceiling sliding door.  A small balcony with glass railing is connected to the living room complementing its function by providing a semi outdoor/indoor space. Adjacent to the main living / dining area is the stair well that connects the basement, 1st floor and the second floor. It does not only satisfy the basic circulation need, but serve as a light well bringing natural light to the first floor corridor. Combining with the exposed concrete shear wall on the east side, the stair well creates a contemporary language that ties the 1st and 2nd floor together aesthetically.
