Commissioned for a Boulder based painter seeking a weekend retreat conducive to creativity, our design objective was to distill an architectural response of serene clarity and spatial integrity amongst a pristine mountain site. The retreat emerges from the slope as a refined linear composition, implying an essence of simplicity and calm floating above the landscape. The structure is cloaked in a subdued facade of blackened steel and glass walls which frame panoramic views of the landscape beyond. Here, the boundary between inside and out dissolves effortlessly, inviting the sublime beauty of the mountainscape to permeate every corner of the retreat. This seamless connection to nature ensures that the painter's creative process is not confined within walls, but rather inspired by the ever-changing interplay of light, color, and texture.
