Bajío House

Bajío House is designed as a series of one-story pavilions spread across the property, which creates and enhances the extensive garden. Intended as a weekend retreat, the building's design intentionally fragments its program into independent volumes. This design introduces voids, views, and vegetation between each space, providing privacy and acoustic insulation for the bedrooms without the need for blind hallways.
The house's spatial experience is divided into two settings and dynamics: family life and individual rest. The public area features a higher ceiling and integrates the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The window frames are concealed within the walls, extending uninterrupted toward the terrace and offering views of the mountainous landscape and garden.

To reach the bedrooms, residents cross a transitional hallway. There, they leave the garden light behind and enter a space where the ceiling is compressed and interrupted only by subtle entryways of light. This part of the journey slows the pace. Upon reaching the rooms, residents regain their sense of space. The L-shaped layout acts as a solar filter, tempering the impact of the setting sun and achieving comfortable room temperatures without sacrificing the project's main intention of framing the view of Peña de Bernal.

The color palette is unified by sand, beige, and subtle pink tones. Inside the house, rosa morada wood, selected for its grain and character, brings warmth and blends with the ceilings, walls, and primary furniture pieces. The chukum finish is used exclusively in specific interior areas to adapt to Querétaro's extreme climate. Finally, the outdoor pool is made entirely of concrete to create an environment designed to connect with the area's thermal water while gazing up at the sky.
