The grand estate of Bäumlihof lays at the center of the plain between Basel and Riehen. The semidetached house with a meandering form is set in the former vegetable garden and reflects the unique atmosphere of the site. The facade of the ground level is clad in vertical timber slats while the upper level is clad in copper plates. Large copper planter boxes are set in beween the two levels to allow vegetation to grow in the upper part of the building like a treetop. Due to the angled shape of the building and the differing orientation both homes benefit from a private courtyard sheltered from view.
