Beauty et Al

Reflect Architecture Inc. as Interior Design

Known as the nucleus of upscale fashion and chic, Yorkville is a hubspot for world-class shops and restaurants— a place to be seen and experience ultimate luxe. Opening its doors next to Louboutin, Balenciaga and Chanel, Beauty et Al new salon adds to the Yorkville experience, offering the gift of time and self-care to clients between two shopping sprees, or simply in need of escapism.

Setting the intention to create a space pulled back from Yorkville’s grandeur— and reflect the brand’s ethos to provide a personal and soothing experience— the design was led by envisioning a new form of luxury: one that airlifts you from the glitz to a serene oasis that grounds you to mother earth. Minimalism in the space invokes tranquility—  a space dedicated to rejuvenation.

The layout takes its cue from Morocco’s riads; interior gardens designed for privacy and protection from the weather, originally arranged symmetrically along a rectangular fountain. In echo, Beauty et Al’s different treatments— mani, pedi, hair, brow + lash— are placed along one side of the room, each under a semi arched backdrop, giving privacy for each client to relax.

Materials are literally or metaphorically tied to the five elements: clay tiles clad the semi arched backdrops behind each treatment station (hair, brows and pedicure) the translucent corian manicure table tops and gauze cascades evoke the flow and fluidity of water, while the bespoke foot baths are inspired by the geometry of river rocks. Wood in the floors and furnishings adds warmth and texture to the overall natural palette.

Indirect light runs along the profiled edge of each alcove and walls, further highlighting the division of the space, while gently enfolding the salon’s interior. Small spotlights are dispersed across the curved ceiling— inviting the clients to gaze above like at stars in the night. Beauty et Al’s rejuvenation salon is a quick get away from Toronto’s fast-paced city life. Inspired and made up from natural elements, the spatial design intends sublimate the brand’s raison d’être: Self-care is the New luxury.
