Located in an eighteenth-century building in the exclusive Belgravia neighborhood, this apartment underwent a full transformation to meet contemporary needs while preserving its historical essence.
“The project was about updating a space that the family has owned for over forty years, modernizing it without compromising its character,” says Dado Castello Branco. The addition of air-conditioning—now essential for increasingly harsh European summers—was one of the key updates, along with the removal of an obsolete fireplace. “We replaced the fireplace with an extended living area, featuring a B&B Italia sofa and a standout work by Vik Muniz, which creates a striking dialogue with the family’s collection of Johann Moritz Rugendas prints,” he notes.
The previously compartmentalized layout was ingeniously reimagined: hallways were removed and sliding doors replaced fixed walls to improve flow and connectivity. The library was transformed into a functional home office with a sofa bed for guests. Located near Harrods, Buckingham Palace, and Hyde Park, the apartment perfectly balances tradition and modernity.
