The best office in the world!

Caramel developed 51 adaptable work environments for a fashion label in Germany and brought them to life through a simple yet innovative design.

The high-tech world of advanced materials and technologies used in the label’s products contrasts with the inventive low-tech approach to the materials and making of the work environments. This contrast seems to fuel the coolness and creativity of the people working there.

Process

User requirements were developed collaboratively through questionnaires, individual interviews and several design thinking workshops involving the planning team. The new spatial elements can be repurposed over time and, in some cases, rearranged by the users themselves.

A sustainable framework that can adapt to changing needs without structural alterations to the building.
Programme – Playground

All new elements are made from natural or recycled materials, with surfaces that invite individual appropriation: pin it, peg it, draw on it, put your magnets on it – leave your traces. Some elements can also be reconfigured by the users themselves.
Sustainability in practice: existing furniture and glass partitions were reused in the refurbishment.
Every workstation has a window seat.
The number of meeting opportunities increased from 50 to 300.
Competition procedure: July 2018 – 1st prize
