The Crystal Springs Resort team were looking for a retractable roof enclosure using ETFE. OpenAire developed a custom retractable roof solution with moving ETFE pillows to withstand the storms of New Jersey Winters.
The operable ETFE pillows are housed in custom curved units, that slide down from the peak of the ridge to the edges. The enclosure is 100ft wide and 97 ft deep. This solution also includes a partially glass roof and glass walls that butt up to adjacent patios with decorative molding to align to the resorts architecture. The resulting biosphere is visible from all sides and angles, and acts as both an aquatic venue and event space year round.
