The renovation project on the Côte Fleurie focuses on revitalizing a 1970s single-family house, transforming it into a contemporary and energy-efficient home while preserving its architectural heritage. Located in a coastal residential neighborhood near the sea, the house is surrounded by properties featuring steeply pitched roofs, bold geometric shapes, and colorful accents on elements like shutters and beams.
The project’s core objective is to adapt the house to modern living standards, both in terms of thermal performance and comfort. The renovation emphasizes improving the building’s energy efficiency through external insulation and a refreshed facade, using a natural lime render that maintains the existing white and gray color palette. This approach not only enhances the house’s aesthetic but also contributes to the cooling and visual harmony of the local urban landscape.
Architecturally, the design introduces contemporary elements that bring dynamism and cohesion to the house’s previously fragmented facades. On the street-facing side, the living area is expanded and aligned with the garage doors below, while a new south-facing balcony maximizes sunlight and views. The rear facade is generously opened to capture western light, with new windows leading to a terrace that connects the living spaces to the garden, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.
The roof is also reimagined, featuring a large dormer window to illuminate the attic and skylights to bring additional natural light into the home. Windows on the garden level are subtly enlarged to brighten the interior and strengthen the connection to the outdoor space.
To honor the house’s history while embracing modernity, contemporary additions such as the balcony, dormer, and porch are painted in a pigeon blue tone. This color choice reflects the local tradition of highlighting architectural details and blends harmoniously with the surrounding environment. The project’s geometric design reinterprets the neighborhood’s strong shapes in a modern way, using bold and minimal forms like triangles, circles, and rectangles.
Inside, the layout is restructured to add new bedrooms and bathrooms, optimizing space and functionality. The removal of partitions and the reconfiguration of the ground floor improve natural light and circulation, making the home more spacious and comfortable. The result is a house that seamlessly blends its 1970s roots with contemporary living, offering enhanced comfort, energy efficiency, and a renewed connection to its coastal surroundings. The project is led by Nicola Spinetto Architectes in collaboration with Constellations Studio.
