Body and Movement

The space where the Body and Movement multipurpose rooms are located today is part of the educational complex inaugurated in 1954 to expand the Santa Maria School. Over the last seventy years, it has been used for cultural events, sports and musical practices, as well as administrative, financial and storage areas.

A complete renovation of the space was carried out in order to create two multi-purpose rooms that could house different uses, such as: teaching and practicing dance, martial arts, music, film screenings, cultural events, presentations, teacher and family meetings. To this end, internal demolitions and the construction of new enclosures were carried out, creating support spaces for access, storage of equipment, materials and changing rooms, providing open and fluid spaces in order to reorganize the new flows.

The entrance hall is equipped with a ramp and openings for universal access and an escape route. It serves as a support space and access to the multipurpose rooms and changing rooms. The first multipurpose room has been equipped to house dance-related activities, with the installation of mirrors, movable support bars, aisles and curtains that, in addition to providing greater acoustic comfort, control the entry of natural light and turn the space into a theater for performances. As the space closest to the entrance, it was equipped with a sound system, projector and stackable chairs for parent-teacher meetings, presentations, collaborative group activities and film screenings.

The second multipurpose room was equipped with mobile tatami mats for martial arts, curricular and extracurricular activities. For both spaces, it was proposed to install modular gutters next to the slab to meet the diversity of lighting systems and equipment. It was proposed to increase the number of openings to provide greater cross-ventilation and natural lighting, in order to optimize the use of artificial lighting and ventilation. The materials, textures and colors used in the project contribute to meeting the proposed uses, providing better thermal and acoustic comfort and renewing the space in a contemporary way.
