Boutique Hotel Marktgasse

IDA14 by Karsten Schmidt as Architects

The Marktgasse boutique hotel with its 39 individually furnished rooms, two restaurants and a bar is right in the heart of Zurich’s old town. Following a careful restoration the many historic and protected details are impressively combined with timeless, eclectic design and modern technical features. The hotel Marktgasse exudes elegant understatement, care and attention to detail. This is reflected in the furniture out of solid wood especially designed for the hotel, the strained and relined carpets in all corridors, which swallow each noise as well as the drinking water wells with decanters and glasses on each floor. Each of the 39 rooms is unique and features a different floor plan. The medieval building keeps its unique character by the white mural and use of plain and genuine materials. Another unique feature is the well-stocked hotel library with its distinctive red shelves and modern furnishings, including technical equipment for video conferencing. The implementation and continuation of the Interior was taken over by IDA14 for the operator Ospena Group AG, from whom the concept comes.
