Located in the Çatalca district on the northwestern periphery of Istanbul, Bozanoğlu Equestrian Facility is a project that stands out with its environmentally responsive architectural approach, use of natural materials, and a spatial program designed around the needs of both horses and riders. Set in a rural context removed from dense urban development, the facility aims to offer a high-quality equestrian experience embedded in the natural landscape.
Site planning decisions were shaped by the existing topography, solar orientation, and prevailing wind directions. All structures are positioned with minimal intervention to the terrain, establishing a strong and respectful relationship with the land.
The architectural language is defined by simplicity and material honesty. The primary construction and façade materials include structural blocks, locally sourced red brick, and natural timber. These choices ensure harmony with the regional context while supporting long-term sustainability, ease of maintenance, and graceful aging. Timber ceilings enhance both acoustic and thermal comfort while bringing warmth and tactility to the interior spaces.
At the core of the facility lies a 35x60-meter indoor riding hall, designed for year-round use. This structure is optimized for natural lighting and cross-ventilation, while technical specifications such as ground layering, interior climate, and air quality have been tailored to meet the performance and health needs of horses.
The clubhouse, designed as a shared space for riders and visitors, functions as a multi-purpose volume for rest, social interaction, and spectating. Seamless indoor-outdoor transitions and partially covered terraces support user comfort while reinforcing the connection with the surrounding environment.
An integral part of the project is the dedicated forest trail, offering users the opportunity to experience nature on horseback. The trail design follows the natural topography with minimal disruption, preserving the ecological integrity of the landscape.
Bozanoğlu Equestrian Facility is envisioned as a model for contemporary rural architecture — one that prioritizes functionality, well-being, and environmental integration.
