In a setting where the sea is the backdrop and the sun sets the pace of daily life, the 204m² apartment in Praia Brava, in Itajaí (SC), was designed to convey the lightness of being by the sea. Designed by architects Marina Carvalho and Thalita Peron, from Bo. Arch Studio, the interior design did not alter the original floor plan provided by the construction company — but completely redefined the atmosphere of the spaces.

“The idea was to preserve the basics, without structural interventions, but to extract maximum personality, comfort and aesthetic coherence from it,” says Thalita. The desire of the clients, a couple with children who spend long periods of time on the coast, was clear: a space with a beachy soul, but without excessive themes. The solution? A minimalism punctuated by references to Greek architecture, with a white background and textured walls, and the sand-toned sofa as the only obvious color break.

The neutral palette was the starting point for creating a continuous layout, in which all the spaces communicate with each other. One of the main challenges, according to Marina, was integrating the balcony and the kitchen while maintaining the original door that divides the spaces. “The carpentry was key to this connection. We used the wood-like MDF as a backdrop that extends from the kitchen to the balcony, creating the sensation of a large bookcase, even with the door closed.”

Another highlight of the project is the 100% indirect lighting. No visible spotlights or tracks: the soft light is embedded in the living room's bookshelf and in strategically positioned slits, reinforcing the idea of comfort and unpretentious elegance. The project dispensed with technological automation resources and opted for more sensorial solutions, such as textures, volumes and the intelligent use of materials.

Without exaggeration, the apartment delivers exactly what it set out to do: a holiday retreat that also functions as a home — and that embraces everyday life with naturalness, practicality and good memories in the making.
