Conceptual framework Bulimba 1 house was conceived for a family of five on a steep urban site with park and city views.
Resolution Visual links between indoor and outdoor spaces as well as more discreet links between public and private domains were established to facilitate communion on different levels.
Strategies were developed for avoiding disconnection between internal spaces and suburban back yard, a common problem for Brisbane’s hilly building sites.
To this end a three story arrangement was developed, housing garages at the lower level, living spaces on the mid-ground level and the more private bedrooms spaces at the upper level.
Sustainability The shallow plan depth together with full height glass doors to living spaces combine to ensure a high level of cross ventilation whilst exterior blinds, sun hoods and overhangs ensure minimal impact from the sun. Deeply shaded outer and inner entry spaces cool the prevailing breezes as they enter the house.
