Carpet news is an on-offline platform to experience various lifestyle brands. The first offline store of the Carpet News is located at the 1st floor of Bandal Square in Banwol Station, the center of Daegu's culture and transportation, and is configured with six F&B brands and the complex cultural space called Culture Lounge in the size of 957㎡. While designing the carpet news, we have imagined materializing the characteristics of each brand and naturally patch-working them in one village. Yeonnam Bangagan is a select shop that introduces Korean food and beverage that have been reinterpreted in a modern way. The first store of Yeonnam Bangagan was made by remodeling typical Korean local house. We have made the blocks by cutting reversed space of the house. These blocks create a modern atmosphere while showing the identity of the existing Yeonnam Bangagan.
Located in the middle of Carpet News, Culture Lounge is a space for brand showroom, exhibition, and pop-up store that for accommodating various programs. The four box units located in the center of the Culture Lounge are movable with rails. The units are composed of frames for hanging clothes or installing a shelf anywhere. The material used in this unit, polished stainless steel, reflects its surroundings and reveals its presence at the same time. There is a hole in the wall where the box units can be stored, which creates a passage to the storage space in the back.
Eert Kitchen represents the story of seasons by using seasonal ingredients and its space is composed of only tables. The main kitchen is hidden inside the long cabinet box, and kitchen is exposed depending on how much the semi-transparent cabinet door is open. The tables made with red oaks have different shapes. Some of the tables also can be used as a small kitchen. Taking part of the office landscape plan developed in the 1950s, tables are arranged irregularly and organically, creating a dynamic flow in the space stretching out in a row. Baugm roasts domestic grains and it is a small store specializing in take-out menus. Baugm has an open cube structure with two inverted U-shapes joined at the ends and it contains all the functions needed for a store.
In order to create a church for Dogma character, Lieko, who symbolizes good luck, we have created a space with the motif of the facade of The Two Pines Chapel, where Kiddo luckily survived in the movie Kill Bill. The inner space is filled with lights from stained glasses featuring Lieko’s graphics. For Moru Restaurant and Moru-dong selling curry and udon in the atmosphere of a home, we designed the space with boxes in many different sizes to create a space similar to a small village. Each space is separated from one another to provide cozy environment, while the scenery across the space is connected through the windows to create a sense of openness. Carpet News provides opportunity to experience various cultures and it will serve a role of complex culture facility in the area by continuously providing new contents to local residents.
