Casa DLS

The brief of this project was to design a three-bedroom house for a family in an area of the city that went from rural to residential during the 70s. The most challenging part of the project was designing a space that could adapt to today’s lifestyle in an urban fabric saturated with buildings that can no longer be considered contemporary spaces, so that the project could have a dialogue/contrast relationship with the surroundings.

This issue was addressed following a simple yet effective design concept, that is based on a single structural element: a concrete wall, casted in place, that has a central organizing task, becoming a side scene of the everyday life happening inside the house.

It sharply divides the living area, opens where necessary to create connections between the different areas of the house and dynamically transforms itself to accommodate various devices.

Concrete was chosen because of its better structural behavior and to declare the house’s more advanced technology and aesthetic than the other buildings of the neighborhood.
