Vertical living represents a complex challenge: a theme full of opportunities yet equally marked by limitations. Designing the interiors of an apartment within the Index Tower in Dubai (80 floors and 328 meters high, designed by Foster + Partners) meant reflecting not only on the symbolic value the building holds for the city, but also on the client’s concrete needs, as well as on the atmospheres, sensations, and details that were to be emphasized. 

From the close dialogue between designer and client emerged a project defined first and foremost by flexibility: an open, fluid layout that minimizes vertical partitions and makes the space adaptable through large retractable sliding panels. The spectacular views over the city skyline become the true focal point, enhanced by smooth, luminous surfaces that frame the exterior as a changing tableau to be admired throughout the day. 

The kitchen takes on the role of centerpiece within the living area: both a scenic backdrop and a functional hub. The large red Carrara marble countertop, custom-designed, is the primary chromatic accent of the interiors, integrated with bespoke furnishings by Molteni & Dada. 

The spaces develop along a linear logic, with the living area, kitchen, and master bedroom oriented toward the main façade, while the service areas (two bathrooms, a walk-in closet, and a guest bedroom) are positioned toward the rear. The color palette is dominated by light, luminous tones, deliberately chosen to amplify the sense of spatial continuity and to reflect natural light, the home’s defining and essential element. The furnishings, minimal in form and desaturated in tone, balance iconic design pieces with custom-made elements, meticulously crafted by both local and international artisans. 

In its simple and essential language, Casa Index is a project conceived through subtraction: allowing the place itself to take center stage in the design.
