The apartment, whose renovation was completed in 2023, is located in Rome, in the E.U.R. district, and was designed for a young couple with two children: a designer and a psychologist with the need to have a comfortable and flexible study area that would allow them to receive clients while avoiding interference with the most private rooms of the house.
It was thus decided to clearly divide the bedrooms from the living area which develops into a single room of approximately 60 square meters. This is equipped with areas that are visually and functionally separated but connected to each other: the kitchen (from which there is direct access to the laundry and a small bathroom), the study, the living and the dining room. The sleeping area, however, has been reconfigured to have three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The new layout was obtained by operating mainly with demolitions and removals, appropriately calibrated to preserve some original characteristics of the construction including the nailed wooden flooring, the alignments of the beams and the construction elements, thus working by subtraction, an approach maintained throughout the whole work, from design to construction site.
