Casa Mola is inspired by the context itself and vernacular architecture, taking the forest as the starting point for all the decisions: the trees, slopes, views, as well as the climatic conditions of the site like rain, humidity, the sun that as the day goes by completely changes the light.

Since it’s been placed taking into account the existing trees which throughout the day change the lighting and atmosphere of the landscape, the house allows the user to experiment the changing nature of the forest.

As part of the integration with the context, the program spreads in different volumes among the trees dictating the proportions of the contructed environment. The program starts from a central nucleus, where the public space is; around this module we find the private spaces through exterior trails that allow us to feel always be immersed in the nature.

The roof, a gabled wooden structure, becomes one of the most important elements in the design, generating a warm rhythm that envelops the entire space without needing much more.  Outside, the clay tile with an earthy tone, is integrated discretely into the palette. The walls, flattened with a pigment given by the soil, gives the impression that they have emerged from it.

This material selection is the result of giving the materials their own identity, achieving an architecture that must prevail over time and gain value as it ages.

Sustainability was a main concern through the design process, this is the reason we can find low maintenance materials obtained locally and every space counts with cross ventilation which creates cooler environments.

The simplicity and the functionality of the volumes in addition to the contrast between the horizontality of the house and the verticality of the trees, allows us to discover the amazement in what is already there and not what is going to be. The project is a reminder that architecture can be simple, functional, elemental or basic, and still, surprise us in a complex way.
