Located on the edge of a lagoon within a residential neighborhood in the Province of Buenos Aires, Casa Villalobos is entirely organized around a direct and permanent relationship with the water.

The project occupies an 862 m² regular lot that opens toward the lagoon. The brief called for a family home capable of maximizing views, solar orientation, and outdoor living opportunities, while preserving privacy and everyday functionality.

The central design strategy was to establish a longitudinal axis connecting the kitchen—conceived as the heart of the home—to the lagoon. This axis is expressed through a planar element that frames views, organizes circulation, and extends the spatial experience until it becomes a pier reaching over the water. From this decision, the entire house is arranged in relation to the landscape.

The ground floor brings together the social areas within a continuous open-plan space that can fully open onto the garden. The kitchen, barbecue area, and living room function as a single flexible environment, capable of accommodating different forms of gathering and daily use. Two reinforced concrete side walls contain storage, services, and technical systems, freeing the main living space and reinforcing uninterrupted views toward the lagoon.

Resting above this base, a white volume houses the private areas of the residence. Oriented toward the northeast, it captures the best views while taking advantage of morning sunlight in the bedrooms. Each of the three bedrooms includes an en-suite bathroom and direct access to a continuous balcony running along the water-facing façade, extending the living experience beyond the interior boundaries.

The spatial organization follows a simple and efficient logic. A hall on each level and a single-flight staircase connect the different areas of the house, facilitating circulation and reinforcing the overall clarity of the layout. This same pursuit of functional simplicity is reflected in a technical wall that concentrates the HVAC equipment, pumps, boilers, and service installations, allowing maintenance from the exterior without interfering with daily life.

The entrance sequence unfolds beneath a glazed pergola that functions as both a carport and a transitional space between the street and the house. This gradual approach creates privacy while anticipating the close relationship between interior and exterior spaces that defines the project.

Built through a limited palette of elements and precise architectural decisions, the house finds its identity in the interplay between the concrete walls, the white bedroom volume, and the horizontal plane that extends toward the lagoon. Rather than imposing itself upon the landscape, the residence seeks to establish a natural dialogue with its surroundings, creating generous, light-filled, and flexible spaces that support contemporary ways of living.
