A Lisbon couple sets off into a real estate adventure and purchases, with an impulse, a small plot with four ruins in the middle of Alentejo called Moinho do Barroco (Barroco’s Water Mill). The location is remote, without paved road access and only accessible in summer, as the river fills and overflows in winter. The early days are passed clearing the land, investigating the site and thinking what to do next. They decide to get help and recover the original buildings, keeping as much as possible of what remains original and unique, andfound in arquitectLuís Pereira Miguel the right partner for the project.

The "Casas Caiadas" (Whitewashed Houses) project is presently a rural tourism estate in the Arraiolos region, north of Évora, designed for hosting families, or groups, up to eight people. Casas Caiadas consists of three independent houses (plus a support house), fully restored from a core of old water mills, in the heart of an Alentejo with waterways, luscious green landscape most of the year and megalithic rocks.A place to relax by a stream that runs between stones, surrounded by centennial olive trees, menhirs and a beach-like swimming pool. Nearby, there are towns of unique beauty and historical interest, with castles and other monuments. When night falls, back at “Casas Caiadas”, the sky offers a chance to contemplate the stars with visibility conditions like no other place in the south of Europe.

Close to Arraiolos, the authentic Alentejo.

Quadrodesign taps furnish a boutique hotel in the heart of Portugal. The essential aesthetics, solidity and elegance of the iconic Source collection create a natural harmony with the rigorous poetics of the restoration project designed by Pereira Miguel Arquitectos.

A context full of history, culture and magic becomes the opportunity to express the values of beauty, quality and sustainability through an international language, which combines Made in Italy and local taste.

Nestled in the Alentejo region of central Portugal, Casas Caiadas | Open House is a boutique hotel for families or small groups of friends that skilfully combines discreet and minimal architecture with the authenticity of a territory with an overwhelming and wild charm.

The recovery project, designed by the architect Luís Pereira Miguel at the request of a couple from Lisbon, Paula and Mário, has revived a historic complex in the pedestrian center of Arraiolos. The building had many lives, it hosted a shelter during the nineteenth century and more recently the most famous oven in the country. Casas Caiadas (Open house) is so called for its 5 entrance doors that overlook two different pedestrian streets and is spread over three floors. On the ground floor the common parts: kitchen, living room and dining room are shared by the guests and are an invitation to conviviality thanks to a fireplace corner, a large table for meals and a few and studied furniture, which combine local craftsmanship and contemporary pieces with essential design. On the first level the bedrooms: one suite and three rooms. And finally a panoramic rooftop overlooking the castle and swimming pool.

The owners' idea was to create an open but intimate place; a destination with an authentic and welcoming atmosphere, which would give a new identity to a site with a fascinating history and unique features. The Portuguese architect Luís Pereira Miguel, who has numerous restoration interventions in his portfolio, interpreted the wishes of the clients by carrying out a syntactic interpretation of the context, with the aim of deeply understanding each character and returning it to the present with originality and uniqueness.

The internal environments, modulated in the absolute white, maintain the measured and sober touch of the exterior. Every detail contributes to reinforce a stylistic coherence, which invites a rewarding experience: the furniture is made of wood, the walls plastered and white, the objects of fine manufacture bear the signature of local artists including João Bruno Videira, Malga Ceramic Design, Graça Paz.

This attention to detail, through the choice of the right materials and shapes, has found perfect consonance in the philosophy of Quadrodesign, which has been a privileged interlocutor in order to offer the same clean and sober style of the boutique hotel and same respected value of simplicity, obtained through a scrupulous work of subtraction and selection, always combining aesthetics and functionality.

So Quadrodesign is in the large common kitchen and bathrooms of Casa Caiadas with one of its most iconic and versatile models: Source. A collection with simple and distinctive lines, unique in its kind for adaptability, practicality, resistance, solidity and elegance; a complete range of mixers for washbasins, bidets, showers and bathtubs (built-in or free-standing) practical, modern and timeless, avant-garde and attentive to nature thanks to stainless steel AISI316L, a noble, long-lasting and recyclable material always center of the Piedmontese company project.
