This site, on a remote inlet in rural Washington, called for a delicate intervention that would maintain the unspoiled natural landscape of fir forest, alder groves, wetlands and waterfront yet allow year round use in a climate with seasonal extremes. A large sunny meadow sits on a ridge overlooking the water with the home stretching out from the forest to share the view. Large panels of operable glass in the kitchen zone provide a year round link to the native landscape and abundant wildlife. Rigorous in detail and delicate in spirit, this home is a pavilion under the trees, a place for family gatherings, and a quiet retreat for contemplation.
