Center Hill

This location is surrounded by five apartment buildings and plays a crucial role in creating the overall landscape of the neighborhood, being visible daily from the surrounding area.

At the same time, it serves as a core where the circulation routes connecting the five buildings intersect, and it has been reconstructed as a topography that encompasses shared facilities where communication can flourish.

Instead of making the roughly 1,000-unit apartment complex into a high-rise tower, we deliberately divided it into five mid- to low-rise buildings and placed them around the site, creating a large central courtyard while maintaining a building scale that harmonizes with the surrounding neighborhood. Since the central courtyard needs to function as a pathway to each building, we designed that functional part to tuck under consolidated greenery, with a structure that makes the upper and lower plates appear wavy, connecting the exterior and interior spaces.

“Center Hill” is a large new topography created to mutually enhance the roles of two layers: a layer of views from above and a layer of connecting spaces.

The landscape utilizes the undulating terrain, allowing different views to unfold from each surrounding building and creating a design that allows residents to experience the changing seasons.

SOHO working gardens and community gardens linked to fitness facilities are scattered throughout, serving as places to promote interaction and activities.

A rich landscape hill is created by using a wide variety of plants in a three-dimensional arrangement of greenery.

Beneath the garden layer lies an interior space that blends seamlessly into the landscape, as if carved out of geological strata. Curved spaces guide the flow of people, forming an organic artery connecting the five surrounding buildings. Furthermore, shared spaces such as fitness centers and lounges foster a community that coexists with nature.

The two-tiered structure of the garden and interior overlaps, swaying up and down like waves and mutually enhancing the spatial value.

The continuity of sightlines and the gentle passage of time within this space create a unique private garden. The interplay of water features and lighting further enhances the depth and richness of the space.

Sculptures and other art pieces are seamlessly integrated into the building, harmonizing with the garden and interior.

Residents naturally encounter art in their daily lives, creating a new residential value, much like living in a gallery.
