Alec Holland had worked with his clients about 8 years ago when they first moved into the Rosario Candela Building built in the 1920s, and wanted help with the decor. When they moved within the building to the much bigger penthouse duplex, they reached out to the designer again. Their style had shifted over the years and they were very interested in decorating their new home with a strong lean towards mid century modern design.
Operative works were “simple, elegant comfort”. They wanted muted colors and simple classic pieces. For furniture, Alec Holland shopped for both iconic mid century pieces as well as new designers who held the same aesthetic of clean lines and subtle details, such as the vintage Mogens Koch bookcases and the sofa from Fair, built new in Brooklyn. The biggest challenge was working with contractors that were already in place. Alec Holland needed to act as his clients’ advocate to make sure they were happy with all results. The homeowners completely put their trust in the designer to create the home of their dreams
