The FINA world championship aquatic center was Projected by JAPI Architects for Guadalajara´s postulation as a host of FINA World 2017. The main idea in this project was to re-use all the structure and equipment built for the Scotiabank Aquatic center created for The Pan American games Guadalajara 2011, and adapt it for a new and proper building for this championship. JAPI Architects created a new conceptual meaning to all the existing structures like the swimming pool and the tennis stadium. The stadium was transformed into the new water polo stadium; to do this three of the tennis courts became the training pools while the remaining space was used to create a newsroom. The main esplanade was redefined as a recreational center intervened with a series of removable metallic structures shaped like mushrooms to create a sense of temporality. The proposal for the center also included a swimming stadium for 5 000 people. The concept for this stadium was to create the illusion that it was made out of water. To make this possible the stadium is surrounded by waterfalls that create the feeling of being immersed in water. This new concepts were added with a sense of preservation, since the new structures were adapted to work in harmony with the existing structure.
