Chai du Nival

Victims of their own success, the clients lack sufficient space to store the fruits of their labor on the Maskoutain plateau. This project seeks to harmoniously expand the existing facilities while respecting the vineyard's scenic location overlooking the Yamaska River.

To modestly complement the vibrant character of the existing building, the additional volume features a simple and refined architectural expression. Acting as a discreet counterpart, it mirrors the scale and earthy brown tones of its neighbor, reflecting the rich hues of the land's harvest. Corrugated steel and wood are used for the exterior finishes, underscoring the product's authenticity and simplicity.

The single-pitched roof, deliberately oriented southward, facilitates snowmelt and water drainage while maximizing storage capacity at its core. The open floor plan is flexible to accommodate changing storage needs, supporting the flow of activities within the winemaking process.

The two buildings are connected by a covered outdoor passage, ensuring seamless movement between production and storage areas. Set at a lower elevation, the canopy frames views of the vineyard, providing an informal meeting spot for a well-deserved break or spontaneous wine tasting.
