DESIGN RESULTS
The interior is inspired by nature's many shapes & joyful colors, with a hint of Art Déco reminiscent of the 20's L.A. A fun-filled, playful style that communicates a joie de vivre. The Vegan cuisine, like Art Déco, exudes faith in the future & avant-garde. The decor is a mix of elegance & warm playfulness. A cozy vibrant atmosphere where life & the joy of food are at the center.
DESIGN BRIEF
The interior design had to be international & elegant, fused with a warm playfulness setting it apart from the typical vegan restaurant one might normally imagine. A luxurious restaurant & bar that happens to be vegan, set in a locale where everyone would feel at home. For those guests who are skeptical of plant-based food, they should be encouraged to take the step and enjoy the overall experience. The name ChouChou is French & a form of endearment; “a person who is preferred over others & towards whom all attention is targeted.”
DESIGN CHALLENGES
The challenge was to create a plant-based restaurant with a buffet concept. Inspired by nature but not in the typical way most people would imagine a vegan restaurant to be. The interior had to be elegant, playful, cozy, vibrant and guests should be drawn in regardless of what type of diet they have. Achieving this meant the interior had to have details, shapes & colors inspired by nature with an inviting atmosphere. How does one make a vegan buffet sexy & elegant yet innovative and enticing to non-vegans? This ambitious goal of such a broad spectrum of desires was successfully achieved and fulfilled.
The client wanted a luxurious and welcoming atmosphere. It was incredibly important that ChouChou is a place for the guests to come, no matter who they are, and feel at home, safe and pampered. The place should absolutely not scream vegan, but subtly enhancing the positive aspects by playing a lot with greenery, not having any animal elements like leather, but use wood and rich earthy colorful tones.
