The Triad of Life, Production, and Ecology
China Metal Precision Machine is located in Xiaogan, Wuhan. The concept of "The Trio of Life, Production, and Ecology" emphasizes the organic integration of these three aspects in master planning. The design breaks away from the traditional focus on industrial production efficiency with living quarters as mere support facilities. The design arranged the employee dormitory, office building, and management dormitory into a clustered configuration, thereby creating a campus with aesthetics appeal with cast iron sculptures and ecological courtyards.
Taking into consideration the local climate characterized by abundant rainfall and stifling summers, the building design prioritizes ventilation for their exterior walls. A “panchi”, inspired by the entry pond frequently use in traditional Chinese schools, sits on the southern side of the campus, thus adapting the microclimate to create a sustainable environment.
The Dialogue between Raw and Refined Craftsmanship
The office building envelope feature suspended brick-colored aluminum tubes with each row interlocking to create a brick-like structure producing a visually stunning impression of floating ceramic tiles and a testament to China Metal Precision Machine's precise craftsmanship and overall excellence. The interlocking ceramic walls harmonize with the metal aluminum panels on the factory's exterior, creating a compelling dialogue between raw and refined craftsmanship.
The dormitory corridor exterior walls employed U-shaped glass to provide a sense of privacy while allowing ample light into the areas. The staff dormitory balconies are designed with brick tiles featuring rhythmic voids, ensuring lighting and ventilation while preserving privacy and the overall appearance of the façade.
The campus buildings interact visually with the management dormitory by directing the view towards the most picturesque spot. The landscape is divided into multiple ecological levels, with various vegetation and vistas. Pedestrian pathways connect all public courtyards, enhancing the overall coherence of the environment.
A Humanistic Campus for Sustainable Development
The campus’s design embodies a pursuit of craftsmanship, with the concept of "Life, Production, and Ecology" incorporated throughout the entire project. It combines the ideals of humanism, sustainability, and intelligent manufacturing to create an environment that not only meets the demands of modern living but also aesthetically pleasing. Architectural design is elevated to a new level that achieves the ideal of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
