Designed by IIDC Architects, Cocoon Hospital, Chandigarh is a 50-bed, approximately 1,00,000 sq.ft. specialised mother and child care hospital located within one of the city’s prominent commercial and hospitality districts.
The graceful hospital facade in neoclassical expression gives Cocoon a distinct civic presence without appearing imposing, and setting the tone for a healthcare environment designed around one of life’s most intimate journeys.
For a healthcare journey as personal as motherhood, the environment needed to offer more than clinical efficiency. The design therefore moves deliberately away from an institutional character, creating spaces shaped around comfort, privacy, reassurance and emotional ease for mothers, children, families and caregivers.
A refined classical vocabulary provides the architectural framework - interpreted with warmth, softness and restraint, and layered with the sensibility of boutique hospitality. Across arrival spaces, corridors, delivery rooms, patient suites and shared areas, spatial sequencing, human scale, material transitions and calibrated light work together to soften the clinical experience and create a sense of familiarity, comfort and ease.
“The classical language endured for two thousand years because it was built around the human figure - proportion, symmetry, the rhythm.” - Ar. Manu Malhotra, Founder, IIDC Architects.
