Introducing Paul’s own home, Conrad Residence exemplifies the studio’s ethos of producing restrained, layered, timeless residences that bring together Architecture, Interior Architecture, Interior Design & Furniture Design & Curation to create a unified vision.

Located in Malvern, Melbourne, Conrad Residence was designed for Studio Director Paul Conrad and his family following a two-year search for the ideal site. Designed around a northern orientation and garden outlooks, the home explores how the studio's design principles can be applied within a suburban setting.

At the heart of the project is a belief that Interior Architecture should drive the design process. This approach informed both the spatial planning and the exterior expression, creating a residence with two distinct yet connected identities: more intimate and formal spaces to the front, and open, light-filled living areas to the rear. 

The architectural language of Conrad Residence is contemporary yet informed by classical principles of proportion, balance and permanence. A restrained material palette of limestone, Paonazzo marble, aged brass and richly textured European oak creates a sense of warmth, refinement and longevity. Throughout the home, subtle layering and craftsmanship provide richness without excess, producing interiors that feel calm, enduring and deeply lived-in. 

A sculptural elliptical staircase forms the centrepiece of the residence, connecting spaces through light, volume and movement. The journey through Conrad Residence reveals carefully framed views, curated artworks and bespoke furniture, reinforcing the studio’s commitment to integrating architecture, interiors and decoration into a cohesive whole. 

Designed as a family home, Conrad Residence balances elegance with practicality. Large openings connect the living spaces to the garden, while intimate rooms encourage retreat, creativity and connection. The result is a residence that reflects Paul Conrad Architects’ broader philosophy: contemporary in expression, informed by tradition, and crafted to become richer with age.
