A trophy usually marks the end of a contest. At COPPA, it became the beginning of a spatial narrative.
Designed and realized by Ali Konya in Etiler, Istanbul, in 2008, COPPA Restaurant & Bar grew from a trophy concept proposed by clients connected to club culture. It also brought together Konya’s longstanding fascination with horses: their physical presence, character, strength, and grace.
The experience begins in a high-ceilinged lobby. Trophies occupy framed recesses within a dark, mirrored grid, while two crystal chandeliers composed with suspended spoon forms introduce light and ceremony.
Beyond the entrance, a large bar is defined by monumental, layered horse-head forms. Their stylized profiles turn the equestrian idea into an architectural presence. The bar leads into dining areas with intimate booths, group tables, and varied seating arrangements, as well as an outdoor terrace. A mirrored stairway connects the restaurant to the upper level.
Throughout COPPA, the trophy and the horse are developed through space, reflection, lighting, and movement. The result is a journey from arrival to gathering, rather than a single decorative theme.
