To honor the sacrifices of healthcare workers during the pandemic in Pakistan, Dr Saad Khalid Niaz and KMC collaborated with Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture to design a memorial near Clifton beach, Karachi.
Each surface of the stone vertical element represents a martyred healthcare worker with their names and a story about their lives etched onto the stone.
The memorial will remember the people who gave an ultimate sacrifice for the nation, and while standing next to them, a shadow of the 5.5' high vertical element will be cast onto the visitor.
The center of the space cradles a stationary waterbody with a bench around it for visitors to pause and reflect.
At night the grid of the rectangular stone base lights up representing the fractures left in the society after losing the health workers.
